Vernon Ivan Fordyce's Obituary
Vernon Ivan Fordyce, aged 82, passed away on May 20, 2024. Born on November 27, 1941, to the late Ivan and Wilma Fordyce, Vernon was a man whose robust laughter and generous spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Fordyce, his cherished son, Chris Fordyce, his brother, Ronald Fordyce, brother-in-law, Frank Williams, and his sister-in-law, Linda Williams.
Vernon's life was one of dedication and service, both to his family and his community. He is survived by his devoted son, Mark (Angela) Fordyce, as well as his adored grandchildren, Ashley Fordyce, Jessica Fordyce, Matthew Fordyce, Luke Fordyce, Derek Bonus, and Jason Bonus, as well as numerous great-grandchildren. His brother, Richard Fordyce, will fondly remember the bond they shared. Vernon's legacy will live on through the stories and memories cherished by his family.
For over five decades, Vernon was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local Union #5. His commitment to his craft was matched only by his dedication to his fellow workers, and he was respected by all for his integrity and work ethic. Vernon's involvement with the Scottish Rite and the Stephen Bayard Masonic Lodge #526 was a testament to his belief in brotherhood and community service. His fellow members will remember him as a man of principle and camaraderie.
An avid outdoorsman, Vernon found solace and joy in hunting, embracing the tranquility of nature. His passion for the open road was evident to anyone who saw him riding his Harley, a symbol of his love for freedom and adventure. Vernon's enthusiasm for NASCAR and drag racing reflected his zest for life and his appreciation for the thrill of competition.
Vernon's life was a journey marked by the love he had for his family, the respect he earned from his peers, and the countless moments of joy he shared with friends. His was a life well-lived, full of purpose and laughter, and his memory will be treasured by all who were fortunate enough to cross his path.
Family and friends are welcome to join the family for visitation on Thursday, May 23, 2024, and Friday, May 24, 2024 from 2 pm - 4 pm and 6 pm - 8 pm at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, 15236. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, May 25 at 12 noon in the funeral home's chapel.
