My favorite memory of Vernon:
The year was i1961. I was attending college at West Virginia University in Morgantown, 35 miles from my hometown of Uniontown, Pennsylvania. I drove back and forth each day.
At the time I was driving a 1952 Plymouth!! The engine quit working at 50,000 plus miles. Eight children were in our family so money was scarce. Vernon said find another motor and we can change it out. I located a 51 Plymouth at the local junk yard with a like engine, a six cylinder slant 6!!! Vernon helped me tow it home! And under the shade of a BIG Old Tree in our backyard Vernon changed out the motor!
I was the helper, handing him the wrenches.
Vernon got in ..... the motor started immediately!!!. And that was transportation and my "Car of Choice" until I graduated June 1963!
