Thomas Shaneyfelt's Obituary
Thomas Shaneyfelt, of Pleasant Hills, formerly of Brownsville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2024, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 9, 1935, in Alicia, PA, the son of the late Hughey and Grace (Gaskill) Shaneyfelt.
Tom attended California State College of PA where he earned his master’s degree. He went on to enjoy a career as an industrial arts teacher at Brentwood High School beginning in 1968 until his retirement in 1997.
Tom loved all things to do with the outdoors whether it was fishing, taking a hike in the mountains, or just admiring the beautiful scenery around him. He loved the fall and was known to take long drives to admire the changing of the leaves. He was an avid hockey fan and loved cars. He could often be found building and fixing things, especially around his home.
Tom cherished the time spent with his family, especially enjoying trips to Wildwood Crest and Atlantic City, where they made many fond memories together.
Thomas is survived by his daughter, Holly, and son, Scott. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Shelby G. Shaneyfelt and brothers, John, Robert and Chuck Shaneyfelt.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a memorial visitation on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. A memorial service in honor of Tom will be held in the chapel at the funeral home on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Western Pennsylvania, 1101 Western Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15233.
