Rita C. Matta's Obituary
Rita C. Matta, age 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on Saturday, May 18, 2024. Rita was born on June 18, 1928, the daughter of the late William and Mary McElhinny.
Rita married the love of her life, the late Joseph Matta, with whom she made her home and raised her family. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother whose greatest joys in life were the time spent around her family. Rita was very spiritual and was a longtime parishioner of St. Therese Parish.
Rita is survived by her loving children, Joseph (Kathy) Matta, Jim (Pat) Matta, Karen (Larry) Thomas, Larry (Leslie) Matta, and John (Denise) Matta; her grandchildren, Frank Matta, Doug Matta, Steven (Candace) Matta, Julie (Brad) Verross, Brian (Moriah) Matta, Christopher (Lacey) Thomas, Michelle Thomas (Eli Tomar), Lisa (George) Pitre, Shelly (Marc) Brands, Amanda (Dan) Drane, John (Rachel Foster), Jonathan Matta, and Aaron Matta; and great grandchildren, Joey, Mackenzie (Patrick) Lynch, Caroline, Luke, Grant, Colesen, Anderson, Bridget, Nathan, Cole, Gray, Tyler, Dominic, Jackson, Maddie, Alex, Owen and Lily. Rita also leaves her siblings, Blanche Hawks, and Vince McElhinny and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, Rita was preceded in death by her son, Craig Matta; and her siblings, Louise Chapko and Clem, Geraldine, Denny, Bernard (Pete), Richard, Francis and Tim McElhinny.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for visitation on Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. A blessing service will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024, at 11:00 am in the chapel at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Park.
