Michael J. Murphy's Obituary
Michael John Murphy, “Mike”, age 53, of Pleasant Hills, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 17, 2019, surrounded by his entire loving family.
Mike will be greatly missed by his sons John Murphy and Justin Murphy; parents, John and Jean Murphy; siblings Joe (Debbie) Murphy and Suzi (Larry) Zampogna; nieces and nephews Steven and Amanda Murphy, Bailey and Tyler Sims, Matt and Josh Zampogna.
Mike touched many lives in his 53 years, and made friends everywhere he went. He loved his Jeep Wrangler, working on his Corvette, road trips with his buddies, hiking, biking, golfing, fishing, exploring nature, and of course, traveling to Disney World with family. His cancer diagnosis held him back for a few years, but experimental Car T cells gave him his life back last November, and he told many people that 2019 was the best year of his life, filled with adventures and family gatherings.
Mike was a VIP patient at UPMC Shadyside Hillman Cancer Center, whose staff treated our family like we were their own family. Extreme gratitude goes out to Dr. Mounzer Agha, Sarah McGregor, PA-C, and the entire staff of nurses, patient care assistants, and receptionists. He developed so many close bonds over the years, and we know his loss will be felt for a long time to come.
Mike graduated from Point Park University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, and was employed for over 25 years by Nalco, who stayed loyal to him throughout his entire battle with cancer.
In lieu of flowers, please regularly donate blood or platelets, or make a donation to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation or UPMC Shadyside Hillman Cancer Center.
