Karyn Sue Hyland's Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Karyn Sue Hyland, who left this world on April 23, 2026, at the age of 69. Born on May 21, 1956, Karyn lived a life filled with passion, loyalty, and a profound love for her family and friends.
A proud graduate of Baldwin High School, Karyn later graduated from Penn State University, where she cultivated lifelong friendships and cherished memories. In 1997, she married her beloved husband, Bradley Hyland, with whom she shared many joyful years.
Karyn enjoyed a fulfilling career at General Motors in West Mifflin before retiring, allowing her more time to explore her many passions. She was an avid gardener who found solace in nature and wildlife, constantly nurturing the beauty around her. She loved the Outer Banks and vacationed there for 50 years, and enjoyed the many national parks out west. Karyn was not just a lover of the outdoors; she was also a fierce competitor. She bowled in both youth and adult leagues. Karyn participated in basketball, volleyball, and track at Baldwin High School. An accomplished golfer, she frequently competed in local amateur events, and embraced the sport as a means to connect with friends and family in the great outdoors.
Her steadfast loyalty and unwavering commitment to standing up for what was right made her a beloved figure in the lives of those who knew her. Karyn possessed a unique ability to help others, always ready to lend a hand or offer a listening ear.
Karyn is survived by her devoted husband, Bradley, her father, William Apel, and her sister, Kristyne (Drew) Groves, nieces Taylor (Jeff) Baltzer and Emma (Justin) Groves Baldacci, great nephews Liam and Graham Baltzer and great niece Braith Baldacci. She is preceded in death by her loving mother Kareen Apel.
We will remember her with love and admiration. May her spirit forever bloom in the gardens she cherished.
Memorial donations can be made in Karyn's name to Light of LIfe Rescue Mission, Outer Banks Forever, The Animal Rescue League or NOCC.
