John D. Small, Jr.'s Obituary
John D. Small, 82, of Pittsburgh, peacefully embarked on his next journey on February 17, 2017. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 27, 1934, to John and Lillian Small. John is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Linda; his children David J. Small and Kate (Rob) Swatko; grandchildren Alyssa (AJ) Setto, Sharon (Corey) Eltschlager and Christian R. Swatko; and his great-granddaughter, Estée Setto; sisters, Barbara (William) Edwards and Marian (the late Charles) McGrosky; as well as other cherished family and friends.
John was very active in his love of his church, community and music. Some of his passions included Hamilton Presbyterian Church, Community Band South, Community Foundation of Upper St. Clair, Big Band Memories, and the 432nd Army National Guard Band. He was a charter member of Hearts on the Run, a group of runners that have had open heart surgery.
Friends will be received on Monday from 2 pm to 4 pm & 6 pm to 8 pm at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Rd., Pleasant Hills, 15236. A Funeral Ceremony will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 am at Hamilton Presbyterian, 4500 Hamilton Road, Pittsburgh, 15236. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Foundation of Upper St. Clair at https://www.cfusc.org. Online condolences may be left at www.jeffersonmemorial.biz.
