In Loving Memory of John Richard Chergi
November 14, 1936 - June 27, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John Richard Chergi, 88, of South Park, PA, a devoted, husband, father, proud business owner, and a man who found peace within nature. He peacefully passed away on June 27, 2025 surrounded by the love of his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents Susan Santo Chergi Slobodnyak and John Chergi, Sr. and his brother Ronald Chergi. John began his working years at The Pittsburgh Sun-Telegraph Newspaper and then U.S. Steel's Homestead Works, where he learned the value of hard work and integrity-principles that shaped every chapter of his life. Later, he channeled his skills and vision into entrepreneurship, becoming the proud owner of CHERGI Home Improvement and South Park Window & Door. He thrived on quality workmanship-he built trust, friendships, and a reputation for honest craftsmanship.
Outside of work, John found true happiness in the simplicity of his wife and family. He found peace and contentment tending to his land, fixing something with his hands, or caring for his beloved animals, he was in his element. His heart was kind, and his presence left a mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Rita Mae Novacek Chergi, his 4 daughters Lea Ann (Fran) Rattigan, Lorraine (William) Belida, Jacqueline (Anthony) Romano, and Carolyn (the late Dale) Arnold. 11 grandchildren, Erica (Shane)Tyree, Joshua (Emily) Ray, Dale Arnold Jr., Anthony (Trish) Romano, Emily (Tim) Wozniak, Vincent (Cara) Romano, Ryan (Sara) Belida, Dylan (Sarah) Belida, Nicholas Romano, Joseph Romano, Alyssa Arnold and 10 great grandchildren. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, 15236. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 3, at 10:00 am, at St. John XXIII Parish, St. Francis of Assisi Church, 3609 Washington Avenue, Finleyville, PA 15332.
