Howard H. LaFianza's Obituary
Howard H. LaFianza, age 89, passed away in the comfort of his home on Monday, January 27, 2025, just nine days following the passing of his beloved wife of 66 years, Rita. Howard was born in Pittsburgh on May 18,1935, the son of the late Peter and Anna LaFianza.
After graduating from Central High School, Howard proudly served our country in the United States Navy for four years. He went on to enjoy a fulfilling career as a computer technician with IBM for over 50 years, where his expertise and dedication left a lasting impression. He received numerous service awards throughout his career which was an incredible honor within the company.
Outside of work, Howard loved fishing, bowling and was a talented woodworker. He was dedicated to his faith and volunteered as an usher at his church. Howard's volunteer work extended to dedicating his time to the hospital and U.S.S. New Jersey as well. He was a family man and found great joy in traveling with Rita, exploring new places and embarking on countless adventures by her side.
A devoted and loving father, Howard's legacy will live on through his beloved family: his son, James LaFianza and his wife, Karen Seitz-LaFianza; his daughter, Elizabeth O'Rorke and her husband, Michael; his cherished granddaughter, Teresa Jae O'Rorke. Howard is also survived by his brothers, Bernard and Ernest LaFianza and their children; as well as nieces and nephew, Jackie (Doug), John (Kim), and the Late Lynn (Rick), and their children.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for visitation from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 6:00 - 7:30 pm on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. Howard will be laid to rest privately alongside his beloved wife, Rita.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in honor of Howard may be made to the U.S.S. New Jersey (https://www.battleshipnewjersey.org/).
