Even though I grew up on the opposite side of the country in Washington, I have memories of Grandma from my visit to Pittsburgh when I was about 6 years old that are still vivid today. I remember Grandma's infectious laughter and East Coast twang as she hugged me and kept me well fed during my visit. All of the family sat around a big table for meals and Grandma made lots of delicious food. The macaroni and cheese was so different from what I knew...it had tomatoes in it. Grandma laughingly encouraged me to try it. And city chicken too (that wasn't really chicken at all :). I loved them both. My dad who is now in heaven and very happy that he is reunited with his mom passed on a few of Grandma's baking traditions. I know my dad loved Grandma very much and she was his rock. Every Christmas he made what he called Honky Cakes...Grandma's nut rolls with my young daughters at the time. It was quite a process and a big mess! My dad also made city chicken every time he visited. Yummy! I thank Grandma for always being there for my dad and for always having a giggle and encouraging word ready to share. May heaven surround you with loving angels Grandma and give my dad a big hug from me!!! Love, Missy (Michelle)
