Douglas B. Broglie's Obituary
Douglas Byron Broglie, age 82, passed away on February 13, 2024.
Doug was a loving and devoted son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle. Doug was in the first graduating class of the new Snowden Township Junior Senior High School, class of 1959. He was a graduate of Duquesne University School of Education and in the early 1960’s. Doug was also member of the Pennsylvania National Guard.
Doug was multi-talented. As a young man of 16, barely old enough to drive a car, was operating heavy earth moving equipment. In the early 1950’s, his father, John A Broglie, purchased acreage in South Park for the purpose of building homes. His father bought a large D-8 Caterpillar Bull Dozer needed to clear the land and move huge amounts of dirt and rock. Doug was on that machine almost daily after school and in the summer helping his Dad contour the ground to build homes.
Doug was employed by the South Park School District for over a 40 year career. He started his career there both as a teacher, became an assistant principal and then for the remainder of his career, the Principal for South Park Middle School. In that career he guided many students and teachers along the path to success. In addition to his passion for education, Doug also coached many young athletes throughout his career. As an assistant offensive football coach, he devised many complex plays that helped South Park win many games. He used filmmaking as a major tool that showcased the players abilities and developed a Football Resume for the graduating seniors, allowing players to receive scholarships in college. Following his retirement from education, Doug dedicated his life to caring and spending time with his grandchildren and son Doug.
Doug is survived by his son, Doug Broglie (Courtney); grandchildren Mya, Carsyn, and Jaxton; his siblings Bruce (Mary) Broglie, Holly (Felix) Yerace, Kathy (the late James) Enos, and Leslie (Mary) Broglie. Doug’s parents were the late John and Helen Broglie.
He had the utmost respect for his parents, serving South Park School District for over 40 years with one sick day, while his father served on the school board for as many years as well. Doug always gave his mother thanks, too, for all of her hard work bringing beauty to the school with all of her gardening. He made sure there was a small plaque to honor her when she passed away. None of his family ever had to ask twice for anything, he always was there to help family, teachers, students, or parents. Doug was always happy to celebrate other people's accomplishments, and never wanted credit or attention for himself. To say that he worked so hard to make life better for others is a huge understatement.
