Donald Sylvester Kraemer, known affectionately as Don to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2024, at the age of 87 in his hometown of Pittsburgh, PA. Born on November 2, 1936, to John and Tharsilla Kraemer, Don's life was one of unwavering commitment to his loved ones and his community. Don was one of six siblings, leaving behind Janet Georges and Jeannine Cahill, now accompanying John Kraemer, James Kraemer, and Lois Cahill.
Don was the beloved husband of Audrey Kraemer (nee Bell), with whom he shared a beautiful journey of 66 years, woven together with love, respect, and mutual support. He was a loving father to their children, Dee Varicalli (Frank), Donna Pitroski (late Mike), Dawn Rutizer (John Davenport), and Daniel Kraemer (Jackie). Don was a proud grandfather to Michael Pitroski, Sean Varicalli, Kayla Hagan (Dylan), Dylan Rutizer, Nash Kraemer, and Jessa Kraemer, and a great grandfather to Olive Varicalli.
Don's professional life was marked by a long and successful career at CIT Finance Company, where his colleagues respected him for his work ethic and camaraderie. As a proud Navy veteran, he served his country with honor and dedication, a testament to his character and patriotism.
An avid sports fan, Don's passion for his Pittsburgh teams was unmatched. Whether it was cheering for the Steelers or celebrating a Penguins' victory, his enthusiasm was contagious.
As we mourn the loss of a truly remarkable man, we also celebrate the life of someone who made the world a better place simply by being in it. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
