Alfred M. Schirra's Obituary
Alfred M. Schirra, 94, of Pittsburgh, PA. passed away on February 18, 2025. Born September 26, 1930 to the late Nicholas and Rita Schirra.
Alf was a proud Army Veteran, who bravely served his nation during the Korean War. After returning home, he embarked on a 42-year career as an engraver with Matthews International. He cherished the camaraderie of his fellow veterans and was an active member of his local German club as well a lifetime member of his local VFW.
In his retirement, Alf relished the outdoor life, often found fishing, hunting or tending to his garden. He was also a fervent supporter of Pittsburgh Penguins hockey and Steelers football. Above all else, his role as a proud father and a wonderful husband was Alf's most treasured accomplishment. Alf was well known for his sense of humor, his laughter and smile will be deeply missed and warmly remembered by all who knew him.

Alfred is survived by his loving wife of 72 years Janet (Augustine) Schirra; children Michael (Patti) Schirra, Donald (Deborah) Schirra, Glenn (Patricia) Schirra, Timothy (Regina) Schirra, Lisa (Raymond) Furman; grandchildren Lindsay, Ethan, Evan, Christine, Glenn Jr., Michelle, Catherine, Justin, Brian and Eric; great-grandchildren Ambit, Calissa and Isaac; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, grandson Nicholas, and eight siblings
Friends and family will be received from 2-6pm on Friday, February 21, 2025 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pleasant Hills, PA, 15236.
A Blessing Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel following visitation at 6pm.
Burial will be handled by Jefferson Memorial Park.
