Celebrating the holidays can be challenging when you’re grieving the loss of a loved one. We understand that this can be an especially tough time and we’re here to share grief resources with you.
Here are some reminder and tips on how to cope with your grief during the holidays and throughout the year.
- Healing is a journey and the loss of a loved one effects people in many different ways. Someone may be at a different point in their own grief journey than other surrounding them. Every person responds and copes in their own way.
- Sharing helps people navigate through complicated feelings. The holidays are not always as joyous as they once were when you have lost a loved one. Sharing stories, memories and more is a path to healing that feels affirming and uplifting, and often both happy and sad at the same time. Sharing and listening go a long way in the healing journey.
- Connecting with others is powerful. We encourage those dealing with grief to connect with family, friends, co-workers, or neighbors, even when it can be difficult to do so.
- Grief does not just come with the first holiday season. Grieving the loss of a loved one does not simply go away after one year or one holiday season. As people cope with the ebb and flow of dealing with a loss, grief can and often will continue to impact your life for many years to come. Having someone to share these feelings with is so very helpful and makes one feel less isolated in their grief.
