William Gerald Thornton, Sr., age 74, of Bethel Park, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, September 7, 2020.
William is survived by his loving wife of 54 years to Margaret (Schmitt) Thornton. Loving father of Bill Thornton, Jr. and Lisa A. (the late Robert) Gillen. Beloved Pap of Robert G. Gillen, Jr. and Katelyn R. Gillen. Brother of Bernard (the late Carolyn) Thornton Jr., and James (Joanne) Thornton. Bill is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard W. Thornton, Sr., and Ruth E. Thornton; and his sisters, Geraldine Thornton and Mary Ruth and Sylvester Dauk.
Bill was a proud Navy Veteran who served during the Vietnam War, he retired from the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier with 39 years of service. Bill enjoyed tinkering with classic cars and could often be found at car shows in his younger years. Above all, he loved his family and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
Given the current health restrictions that we are experiencing only 25 people will be allowed in the funeral home at any given time, facial coverings are a must and physical distancing is encouraged.
