William I. Swoope Jr.'s Obituary
William Irvin Swoope Jr, 82, passed away peacefully February 20, 2021. Bill was born June 25, 1938, in Madera, PA, the oldest of four of William Irvin Swoope Sr and Anne Graham Swoope. Survived by his loving wife of 58 years Carol Austin Swoope and son Timothy M Swoope (Carol Jean). Preceded in death by son William I Swoope IV. Bill also had five loving grandchildren Nicole (Zach) Cameron, Corinne Swoope, Timothy M Swoope Jr, Sofia Swoope and William I Swoope V and two great-grandchildren Blake Cameron and Kennedy Cameron. Brothers, Henry Bucher Swoope IV (Jane) (both deceased), Frank Graham Swoope (Marge), Thomas Johnston Swoope (Hazel).
After his childhood in Madera, Bill joined the Navy and served as a Radarman RD3 on the USS Henley. From there, Bill returned and began his career in the restaurant business with Howard Johnson’s, married Carol and moved from Erie to Columbus to Pittsburgh while raising their family. Later in life, he co-founded The Coffee Tree Roasters with his son William I Swoope IV.
When he was not traveling to coffee producing countries, he was spending time vacationing with Carol and family. He enjoyed fishing and outdoor excursions. He was active with his navy buddies and served as Vice President of the USS Henley Association.
A private service will be held for the immediate family at internment in Curwensville, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be made in Bill’s memory to the Madera Volunteer Fire Department 2720 Main Street Madera, PA 16661 or the Lebanon Presbyterian Church 2800 Old Elizabeth Road West Mifflin, PA 15122.
