William K. "Bil"
Age 76, of Pleasant Hills, on Monday March 28, 2016 after a long illness. Born October 16, 1939 in Kane, PA to the late Kevin B. and Mary Ellen (Driscoll) Ogilvie, he grew up in Smethport, PA with his sister, the late Patricia A. Kane of Olean, NY. Throughout his youth, Bill served as an altar boy at the local Catholic church and graduated high school in 1957, where he also competed in track (shot put). After meeting her while attending Gannon College in Erie, PA Bill married Patricia (Richards) Ogilvie on September 8, 1962 at St. Dennis in Versailles.
Bill had a career in retail management, serving GC Murphy & Co. at stores in Lawrenceville, East Hills, Mt. Lebanon, Versailles, McKeesport, Century III, and Greensburg until their closure in 1988 and then for Floral Creations of Lancaster, PA, opening a Christy’s storefront which he managed until his retirement in 2005.
In his youth, Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman. More recently, he enjoyed biking along the Allegheny passage bike trail and had visited numerous local and national parks. Bill was a fanatical football fan, rarely missing a Steelers telecast and attending many Panther games. Known to some of his friends as “Skipper”, Bill was a reserved man with a dry sense of humor.
Bill is survived by his wife, Patricia (Richards) to whom he was married for 53 years. He is also survived by his daughters Kathleen (Kathy) Ogilvie (Frank E. Myers III) of San Diego, CA and Elizabeth (Beth) (Ogilvie) Ward (Timothy E. Ward) of Chagrin Falls, OH and his grandchildren James Timothy (JT), Kevin, Sarah Ward and Ian Myers.
Visitation will be on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pleasant Hills. A Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 2 pm at St. Thomas A’ Becket, 139 Gill Hall Road, Jefferson Hills. Inurnment (private) at Lebanon Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to the Arthritis Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
