William "Bill" L. Kirkpatrick's Obituary
William L. "Bill" Kirkpatrick, passed away on October 2nd, 2023, at the age of 87, passed away doing what he loved most; working outdoors.
Bill was the cherished husband of Jacqueline A. Kirkpatrick; father of Robert Kirkpatrick and the late William L. Kirkpatrick, Jr.; brother of Jim Kirkpatrick, Jack Kirkpatrick, Joni Cotter and the late Bob Fisher; son of, the late Lois (Gabriel) Pesacreta and the late James (Dorothy) Kirkpatrick.
Born and raised in Brentwood, Bill was a proud graduate of Brentwood High School. His intellect and curiosity led him to a successful career as a nuclear engineer at Westinghouse, where he applied his skills and passion for over three decades before retiring in 1986. Bill created some of life's most enduring memories at Westinghouse, forming lifelong friendships and leaving an indelible mark on all those who had the privilege of working with him.
Outside of work, Bill was a man of many interests and hobbies. His hands were rarely still, and he was known for his love for building things, including constructing two-family homes from the ground up. This 'do it yourself' mentality was a testament to his resourcefulness, attention to detail, and love for craftsmanship. His homes reflected his personal touch and willingness to put in the extra effort to make something special for his family.
Bill had an immense passion for cars, particularly Corvettes. He was a proud member of both the Corvette Club of Western Pennsylvania and the North Pittsburgh Corvette Club. Bill was never happier than when he was behind the wheel of his 2005 Daytona Sun Set Orange convertible Corvette, zipping down the country roads with a broad smile on his face.
Yet, for all his love of engineering, building, and cars, Bill’s deepest joy came from being outdoors. From sunup to sundown, whether rain or shine, he could be found outside, tirelessly working in his yard, making the world around him more beautiful. His unexpected passing occurred outdoors doing what he loved most, a testament to the life he led filled with diligent work and natural appreciation.
William L. "Bill" Kirkpatrick was a devoted family man, a respected engineer, a dedicated nature enthusiast, and beloved by all who knew him. His life’s journey offers a remarkable testament to his enduring spirit, loving heart, and inspirational life. The joy he brought to all those around him will continue to echo in the memories of his family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known him.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 7th at 2 P.M. at Jefferson Memorial Park, 401 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.
