William E. Handshue's Obituary
William "Ed" Handshue, 99, of Bethel Park, formerly of Pleasant Hills, entered Eternal Peace on Friday, September 9, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Ed was born on July 10, 1923, in Homestead, the son of the late John and Mary Ann (Scott) Handshue. Ed proudly served our country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a wounded veteran and was presented with both the Bronze Star and Purple Heart Medals. Following his time in the service, he went on to enjoy a long career as a steelworker with US Steel for 40 years. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and a proud Mason for 75 years. He was quick to make friends wherever he went due to his outgoing personality and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Ed was an accomplished woodworker and artist, however his greatest joys in life were the time spent with his family.
Ed was the loving father of Carol Brandyberry, Beth (Greg) Thomas, Daniel Handshue, and Kurt Handshue; the much-loved grandfather of Mike Brandyberry, Courtney Webster, Caitlyn (Dave) Saranchak, and Jeremiah Thomas; a great grandfather to Jackson Webster, whom he adored; and an beloved uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joan Handshue in 2012 and his daughter-in-law, Justine in 2019.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for visitation on Monday, September 12, 2022, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15236. A service will be held at the funeral home chapel at 10:00 am on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, followed by military honors. Burial will be held privately. Memorial contributions in honor of Ed may be made to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 400 Old Clairton Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.
