William "Bill" Gernert's Obituary
Age 87, of Pleasant Hills, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2018. Dear husband of 37 years to the late Marie Frances (Sochacki); father of Eric; brother of James E.; son of the late Carl and Helen Gernert. Bill served in the US Army Corps of Engineers, worked for Westinghouse Electric and the Ben Franklin Partnership. He was a member of the Operations crew for the University of Pittsburgh Varsity Marching Band, and a contrabass player for the Steel City Ambassadors Drum and Bugle Corps. Family and friends will be received on Thursday, May 17, 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, 15236. A Blessing Service will take place on Friday, May 18, in the funeral home chapel at 1 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pitt Band (www.giveto.pitt.edu/).
