William T. Cagney's Obituary
William (Bill) Thomas Cagney (67), of West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, passed away with his family, at home on November 1, 2022. Son of the Late Gwen Lombard and William Cagney. He is survived by; his sister Joanne (Gill) Gaugler, cherished wife, Patricia (Durkosh), married for 45 wonderful years, and three adoring children; Julie (Rob) Sarracino, Michael (Judy) Cagney, And Maggie (Lorenzo) Stanley. He also leaves behind his two greatest joys in granddaughters Peyton Stanley and Hazel Sarracino.
Bill attended St Elizabeth Catholic High School in Baldwin, PA, and went on to receive a degree in the Vocation and Technology Program at the Community College of Allegheny County. Bill began his career with the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 95, in 1974, as a Stationary Engineer at the University of Pittsburgh until he was elected to serve as Business Manager in 1986, until his retirement in 2014.
Bill held may positions within the IUOE, including Treasurer of the International's General Pension Plan and President of the Pennsylvania State Council of Operating Engineers.
Bill was also a member of the City of Pittsburgh's Green Action Committee and UPMC Health Insurance Advisors Board. He also served on the board of directors at Green Innovations, Three River's Labor Management Committee, Visit Pittsburgh, and most recently, the Community College of Allegheny County where he was proud to participate in bringing food pantries to students in need.
Bill was a loving father, incredible father and grandfather, avid golf buddy, dependable friend and neighbor to all, and a staple in the community around the City of Pittsburgh, coaching youth sports, traversing countless miles on the Three Rivers Heritage Trail, and passionately giving back through volunteerism and civic engagement.
Family and friends will be received Friday, November 4, 2022 from 1-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pleasant Hills. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 5th at 10 AM, at the Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish, St. Elizabeth of Hungary Worship Site, 1 Grove Place, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.
In lieu of flowers, Bill would be honored if you would consider donations to two of his most cherished organizations: The Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank, 1 N. Linden Street, Duquesne, PA 15110 or Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish, 1 Grove Place, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.
