William Albert Barati's Obituary
William A. Barati peacefully passed away at home on Nov. 20, 2022 after a lengthy struggle with Parkinson's Disease & macular degeneration. His 91 years were lived with kindness, generosity, honesty, humor and love. He was a 1949 graduate of Baldwin High School. In 1953 he earned his BS in mechanical engineering, while in the ROTC, from Lafayette College. While serving in the Army at Camp Stewart, Georgia, he married his beloved Margaret Brown from Pittsfield, MA in August 1954. They then returned to Pittsburgh, where he ran his successful family business, Barati Bros. Inc, until his retirement in 1989.
They built their home in Whitehall, where they raised their daughters, Diane, formerly of Shadyside, and the late Donna. In addition to his business, Bill's life was full with church responsibilities, woodworking & many pleasurable family activities. Gardening was very important, and their gardens produced copious amounts of vegetables to can, freeze and share.
Bill & Marg became "snow birds" at Sun City Center, FL in 1991. They were active in that community and with church leadership. Extensive, adventurous travel became an integral part of their lives with motor home trips, group tours & excursions on their own. Highlights were visiting relatives in Hungary, a safari in Africa, the balloon festival in New Mexico, and hiking on an Alaskan glacier. They were also active with Audubon Society, backpacking, and sailing at Lake Arthur. Photography was always a great interest for Bill and he excelled at taking pictures of wildflowers and birds. He taught several classes using his slides as illustrations.
Along with Diane, he is survived by nieces, a nephew, several cousins and special friends. In addition to Marg (who passed in May 2022) and Donna, he was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Barati and brothers, Richard and Ronald. There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held in the Providence Point chapel 500 Providence Point Blvd. Pgh. Pa. 15243 on Sunday, Nov. 27 2022 at 2 pm. Instead of sending flowers please consider a donation to the Parkinson's Foundation 200 SE 1st Street Suite 800 Miami, FL 33131 or the Macular Research Fund at the Eye and Ear Foundation at the Eye and Ear Institute, 203 Lothrop Street, Suite 251, Pittsburgh PA 15213. May he rest in peace with his "beautiful bride!"
