Walter 'Fred' Winkler's Obituary
Walter Fredrick Winkler, 85, of Pittsburgh, entered into eternal rest on May 07, 2023.
Fred is survived by his wife of 50 years Victoria Winkler; children Lisa (Sean) Mentzer and Lori (Chris Meyers) Winkler; grandchildren Raine, Haley, and Aidan Mentzer, Ohana and Cora Meyers; brother Russell Winkler.
Preceded in death by his parents Francis and Elva Winkler and siblings Eleanor McCanna and Keith Winkler.
Fred was born and raised in Clarion, PA. Upon his high school graduation, he went on to serve in the US Navy. He served aboard the USS Canberra where he worked as a fire control technician. Fred also attended Penn State University where he achieved an Associates Degree in Computer Sciences. He worked in computer support for 17 years and also worked for Storage Technology. Fred loved both hunting and fishing, bowling, and spending quiet evenings sitting on the back porch.
Friends and family will be received on Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 2 pm - 4 pm and 6 pm - 8 pm at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, 15236. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10 am at Our Lady of Hope Parish, Nativity worship site, 5811 Curry Road, Pittsburgh, 15236. Burial will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
