Thomas Hollis' Obituary
Thomas LaClair Hollis, 87, of West Mifflin, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 14, 2021.
He was the loving and devoted husband of 58 years to the late Anna Mae (Phillips) Hollis.
Loving father of Thomas A. (Jean) Hollis, Terri (Barry) Zungre, Tina Hollis and Tim Hollis; grandfather of Jonathan (Samantha) Zungre, Stephanie (David) Stradling, Andrew (Susan) Hollis, Tiffany Jones and Ashley (Jaye) Miller; great grandfather of Henry, Jane, Reece, Kitt and Raine; brother of James Hollis, Dawn (Bill) Kosinski; brother-in-law of Peter Steiner, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Walter R. and Sarah Viola (Bumford) Hollis, and two sisters, Edith June Steiner and Jean Kosinski.
Known to his family and boyhood friends as Clair, his greatest love was his family and his Lord, Tom was a committed Christian who led lunchtime bible studies at his place of work, US steel Homestead Works, where he was crane operator. Tom was a man of the bible, who learned much from listening to and watching his favorite preachers on radio and TV. He would often tell his children as they left for school, “Walk with the King today, and be a blessing!” Tom served two years in the Army, and was stationed for a time in Trieste, Italy.
Tom had a beautiful singing voice and played guitar. He also wrote songs that he would sing to family and friends. He loved country music, especially Hank Williams. Many of us recall him singing an old country tear-jerker called, “Old Shep” and hymns like, “I Come To The Garden Alone” and “Just A Closer Walk With Thee.” Tom loved Jeopardy, loved the outdoors, and really enjoyed traveling. His wife, Anna Mae, used to say “He’s happy when the wheels of his car are turning.”
Tom attended Walnut Grove Assembly of God, where he volunteered at the church food bank. He was the kindest man. Tom was always a helper to people in need, especially to those who were broken down on the side of the road. He had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. He always enjoyed dining out with family and friends.
We all say that Tom was as good a man as we ever knew. We were blessed by God to have him in our lives. Love you, Dad!
