Sylvan "Max" Charles Moore's Obituary
Sylvan (Max) Charles Moore, 82, of Baldwin, peacefully passed away in his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, May 15, 2021 after a short battle with lung cancer.
Born in the Willock area of Pittsburgh, PA to Millie (Petrovich) Moore and Stephen Moore, Sr., Max is the longest surviving of his siblings, Rose Anna (Edward) Maund, Steven (Helen) Moore, Jr. and Samuel (Marilyn) Moore. He was also preceded in death by his son, Harry (Butch) Moore. Max is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gayle (Sessi), and their children, Cheryl Kaecher, Lynda Grimes (Mark) and Angela Malloy (Michael). They also have 4 beautiful grandchildren, April, Amber, Brynn and Cooper. Max is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Max was a member of the Baldwin High School Class of 1957. He was drafted to the United States Army in 1962 and served for 2 years in Germany. He worked as a driver for James’ Moving Company for 14 years then for South Hills Movers, Inc. for 28 years. His trucks were known as “Maxi’s Taxi,” which was also his CB handle.
Max was a lifetime member of the Willock Social Club. He loved listening to polkas, he was a passionate fan of his Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins and Pirates, and he loved a good, home-cooked meal. He spent most of his retirement “putzing” around the house and spending time with his grandkids whom he called his little “turkeys.” You could always count on him; anytime you needed help or a ride, Max was there. He had a charismatic personality and was always adored by anyone that got to meet him. His silly wit would always make you smile. One of his favorite ways to say goodbye was to say “Hey… How far would you be if I didn’t call you back?” and you know that you were in good shape if he told you everything was “All Jake.”
Friends and family will be received Thursday 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. Services will be held Friday at 12:00 Noon in the Funeral Home Chapel. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
