Susan "Sue" Nestico's Obituary
Susan "Sue" Nestico, age 73, of West Mifflin, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of family on Wednesday, July 15, 2026. Born on November 13, 1952, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Esther (Cepko) Abel.
Sue was the loving mother of Joe (Ashlea) Nestico, Jr. and Sarah (Kristen Trenz) Nestico; and the adoring grandmother of Norah E. Nestico. Sue also leaves her sister, Sam Burns and nephews, Chuck and Scott Burns.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, Joseph P. Nestico, Sr.; her brother, Harry L. Abel, Jr.; and brother-in-law, Skip Burns.
As a dedicated LPN at Magee Women's Hospital, Sue cherished her role for over 40 years, nurturing her patients with unwavering compassion while forming lifelong friendships with her colleagues. Known for her immense selflessness, she devoted her life to the care of others.
Beyond her career, Sue was a very talented artist and craft enthusiast. Her creativity shone through in the many craft shows she participated in. A passionate collector, she delighted in her ever-growing collection of flamingos and gnomes.
Family was the cornerstone of Sue's life. She embodied the essence of a fierce mama bear, always standing by her children and her granddaughter, Norah, was a source of immeasurable joy for her.
Despite facing significant health challenges, Sue's resilience never wavered, and her positive outlook on life inspired those around her. While she was initially shy, those fortunate enough to know her discovered a wonderful sense of humor and a warmth that drew people close. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend, and will be deeply missed by all those who loved her.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for visitation on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 12:00 - 2:00 pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. A service in honor of Sue will be held at 2:00 pm in the chapel at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in Sue's name be made to the American Diabetes's Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023.
