Stamos Eleftheriou's Obituary
Stamos Eleftheriou, 88, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2022. He was the loving husband of the late Estelle Eleftheriou. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, May, 26, 1933, to the late Nicholas and Eirene Eleftheriou.
Stamos is survived by his loving son, Nicholas Eleftheriou; daughter, Chrisanne (Kevin) Burr; his cherished granddaughter, Kristen Burr; nieces Maria Heliotis and Irene Kratsios and their families; nephew, Christopher Lewis, as well as numerous cousins.
He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Tittonis.
Stamos was a graduate of Brooklyn College with a Master's Degree in Chemistry. He came to Pittsburgh in 1956 to work for Westinghouse Corporation. He worked for most of his career at Jones and Laughlin Steel Corporation (J&L) until 1982 in the metallurgical laboratory. In 1984 he decided to go back to college and obtained a Master's Degree in Education from Duquesne University and worked as a substitute teacher for the Pittsburgh Public Schools. He then found employment as a laboratory manager for Duncan Lagnais Laboratories and subsequently for many years at Chester Engineering. Prior to his retirement he went back to the laboratories of J&L Steel corporation.
Through mutual friends, he met the love of his life Estelle, at a Greek dance at Saint Nicholas Cathedral. He told us that upon meeting Estelle, he knew he would marry her one day. Stamos and Estelle were married on December 30, 1958. Stamos was a long time member of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church. He was an active member of the church choir, church bowling league, the Golden Club and Yassou club.
Stamos enjoyed learning, especially about history, and took classes with his wife at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. He loved to read, play chess and backgammon, and to make jigsaw puzzles (some of which are on display in his home). He enjoyed listening to Greek music and also loved to Greek dance, especially the Zembekiko!
Most of all he loved being a husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the church for visitation from 10-11 am at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 123 Gilkeson Rd, Pittsburgh, PA, on Thursday, February 3rd. Following visitation a service will be held from 11-12pm. Interment will follow at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church.
