Shirley M. Zinsser's Obituary
Shirley May Zinsser (Sexton), 95, former resident of Vanadium Woods, Baldwin Towers and longtime resident of Baldwin Borough, passed away in the early afternoon on April 17, 2024, while in a restful slumber surrounded by her family.
Shirley was born on July 23, 1928, to Ward and Mary Ann Sexton in Louisville, Kentucky. She grew up in Pleasant Hills and graduated from Baldwin High School.
She married Henry Emil Zinsser on January 17, 1953 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania following his WWII service and together they raised three children, Henry Owen Noel, Wendy Irene Jane, and Judy Ann Joyce.
Shirley was a book keeper at Burroughs Machines for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and playing Chinese Checkers.
Shirley always looked forward to visits from her children. Although they looked a little different following the passing of her daughter, Wendy, during the pandemic. Henry and Judy kept her company and always enjoyed visiting with her. Wendy's husband, Robert Hedegore, continued to visit and provide Shirley support while grieving his wife's passing.
Shirley was a loving mother to Henry Zinsser, the late Wendy (Robert) Hedegore and Judy (Dennis) Russell; a wonderful grandmother to Ginger (Peter) Courtney, Jacqueline (Marshall) Scott and Bernard S. (Sandy) McDade, Jr.; the devoted great-grandmother to Bernard S. McDade, III., Daniel Jacob, Lily, Briana and Elliana Scott and Maive and William "Liam" Courtney; and sister-in-law to Ed Nowe.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; and her two sisters, Jean Belton and Rae Nowe.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, April 22nd from 10 A.M.-12 P.M. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.
A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 12 P.M. in the funeral home chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made in Shirley's name to Zion Lutheran Church at 4301 Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.
