Ronald John Babbie "Babs"'s Obituary
Ronald John Babbie “Babs”, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on August 24, 2024, in his native Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Ronald was born on April 21, 1942, to the late John and Mildred (Gliganic) Babbie. He grew up in Munhall, surrounded by his siblings, including his late sister Marion, and his surviving sisters Dolly Houchens and Diane Keegan, and brother John Babbie. A proud graduate of Munhall High School, Ronald went on to dedicate 30 years to the US Army, with six active years followed by twenty-four years in the reserves, instilling in all a deep respect for commitment and patriotism.
His industrious nature shone brightly in his civilian career as well, with twenty years at PA Railroad and twenty-seven years of service at the US Postal Service until his well-deserved retirement. Ronald also committed himself to his community through three years of service on the Male Democratic Committee for District 10 of West Mifflin, showing deep dedication to the betterment of his hometown.
Ronald enjoyed athletic pursuits from wrestling in his younger years to later becoming an avid bowler, golfer, and fisherman. His leadership qualities were evident as he served as the Past President of the Pilgrims of the Moose. He also valued comradeship through membership in the Sokols, VFW, and the American Legion.
Described as kind, respectful, loving, strong willed, and having a great sense of humor, Ronald was the loving spouse of 59 years to Kay Ann (Shugarts) Babbie. He was the proud father of Kim Sample, Kristine (James) Jackson, and the adoring grandfather to Billy Davis, Joey Davis, Will Miller, Autumn Sample and Aubree Sample.
Ronald John Babbie “Babs” will be dearly missed and forever remembered as a beacon of kindness and a testament to the strength of the human spirit. His legacy will live on not only through his cherished family but also through the countless lives he touched with his generous heart and vibrant spirit.
Friends and family will be received Wednesday, August 28, 2024 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road Pittsburgh, PA 15236. A service by the Pilgrims of the Moose will be taking place at approximately 7pm in the visitation room.
A funeral service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at 10am, conducted by Pastors Samuel and Leah Lamonte and Rick Morgan. Military Honors will be held at the Graveside following the service.
