Robert J. Ballas' Obituary
Robert J. Ballas, 93, of White Oak, PA. passed from this life to the next on Monday, December 19, 2022. He was born on December 4, 1929, in Pittsburgh, the beloved son of the late Joseph and Rose (Strauss) Ballas.
He grew up in the North Side, attending local schools. Robert proudly served our country in the United States Navy from 1948 - 1952, during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in the Mediterranean throughout his service in the group known as the Tin Can Soldiers. During his time in the Navy, Robert was trained as an electrician which set him up for his lifelong career path with Duquesne Light Company. As a dedicated and hard worker, he worked his way up the ladder beginning his career as a lineman, and later becoming a crew leader for several years. Robert ultimately retired from his long career as a foreman.
Robert was formerly a proud member of the VFW in Turtle Creek, PA, where during that time he served as an officer. He was a dedicated family man who enjoyed time spent among his children and grandchildren. Robert enjoyed family vacations and worked alongside his father-in-law to convert a school bus into a motor home to take on their travels. He leaves his children with many fond memories of their adventures on the road and the time spent with their father.
Robert is survived by his loving children William (Sharlene) Ballas of North Huntingdon Twp., Charles (Debbie) Ballas of Midway Park, NC, and Barbara Ann Ballas Waite of Bethel Park; a daughter-in-law, Cristal Ballas; and 11 grandchildren of whom he adored, Nathaniel, Spencer, Joshua, Timothy, Brittany, Cassandra, Candice, Clayton. Chad, JoLena, and Lacey; and numerous cherished great and great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Ellen Ballas (Leaghty); his first wife, Roberta Ballas; and two sons, Thomas Robert Ballas and John Robert Ballas.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a committal service with military honors on Friday, December 30, 2022 at 12:00 pm at Jefferson Memorial Park, 401 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. The committal service will be held in the office chapel which is located in the main cemetery office building.
