Richard Stanley Morgan's Obituary
Richard S. (Rich) Morgan, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2023, in Pittsburgh, Pa. Born on September 29, 1946, in Windber, Pa., Rich was the beloved son of the late George and Martha (Martsolf) Morgan. He was a devoted husband to Lorraine Morgan, a loving father to Alyssa (Christopher) Carnahan and Maura Morgan (Jonathan Hill), and proud grandfather to Adeline and Louisa Carnahan, who brought him great joy. Rich is also survived by his sister, Rebecca (Tom) Potterfield; his brother-in-law, David (Melanie) Schorr; and nieces and nephews.
After serving with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, Rich came to Pittsburgh to attend Point Park College. He graduated with a journalism and communication degree in 1975 and worked in advertising. His love for the city, baseball, and sports history ran deep, and was evident in his work later in life as a guest services representative and tour guide at PNC Park, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Rich enjoyed many hobbies and interests. He was an avid, skilled, and life-long golfer, a dedicated fan of English Premier Football (particularly the Liverpool FC), and passionate about music which he expressed through his guitar playing and extensive music collection.
Rich became a kidney transplant recipient in 1999, a gift he never took for granted. After his transplant, he became deeply involved with the National Kidney Foundation, DonateLife, CORE, and Team Allegheny's Transplant Organization, where he served as president for several years. He enjoyed traveling to the U.S. Transplant Games, where he won gold medals competing in golf for Team Allegheny, and created charity golf outing "The Mulligan- A Second Shot at Life" as a benefit to raise organ donation awareness. But, most importantly, after receiving his "gift of life," he truly lived life fully with purpose and gratitude, with his foremost goal to pay it forward.
Rich had many friends whom he loved. His greatest joys came from spending time with his family and friends, who will remember him for his courage, warm heart, great humor, and strength. He believed life was worth living, and fought courageously until the very end.
As we mourn the loss of Rich, we also celebrate a life well-lived.
The family will receive friends and celebrate Rich's life at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15236 on Thursday, Aug. 31 from 11 a.m. until time of service 2 p.m. with a military honor guard.
In lieu of floral tributes, the family urges everyone to become a designated organ donor in Rich's memory.
