Raymond Neyman's Obituary
Ray Neyman peacefully departed this earth for his Heavenly Home on Sunday, December 22, 2024, after bravely enduring symptoms of Alzheimer's.
Born on April 4, 1936, in New Castle, PA, to Anne (Lenhart) Neyman and Floyd Neyman, Ray grew up in Dravosburg, PA, a suburb of Pittsburgh. He graduated from McKeesport High School in 1957, where he excelled as a three-letter athlete in football, basketball, and baseball. Shortly after, he married his high school sweetheart, Dana (Rabold), in 1958.
After serving in the U.S. Army at Fort Benning, GA, Ray found his professional calling as a mechanic with Thermo King Corporation, specializing in refrigeration units for tractor-trailers. His dedication to his work often required him to live apart from his young family. Over the years, his career led them to various locations across the United States before they settled in Coatesville, PA. Ray's exceptional service earned him a promotion to sales and service, where he covered a large region from Rhode Island to Virginia, often traveling extensively. Even in retirement, his expertise was sought after; he consulted for Thermo King, training professionals in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during the mid-1990s.
Ray was a devoted member of Hopewell United Methodist Church in Downingtown, PA, for many years. His faith in Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of his life, and he served his church family in numerous ways-mentoring youth, repairing church property, portraying the 'Blind Man' in the Passion Play, and driving the church bus for various events. A true handyman, Ray had an extraordinary ability to fix anything, from cars to home appliances, and everything in between.
Ray and Dana shared a love for travel, venturing to destinations across the globe with friends and family. His outstanding work earned him several cruises, which he enjoyed thoroughly. Golf, however, was his greatest passion. Ray not only enjoyed the game but also coached others with his expertise. Even in his late 70's, he played so well that his scores often matched his age.
A kind-hearted and generous man, Ray valued family, friends, and his unwavering faith above all else. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Dana; son Douglas of Pittsburgh, PA; daughter Rae Ann of Coatesville, PA; and daughter Kelly (Rich) Bernstein of Harrisburg, PA. He was a proud grandfather to Alexandra (Teagan) Pfautz of Denver, PA, and Hannah Bernstein of Harrisburg, PA. He is also survived by his brother Floyd of Greencastle, SC, sister Lana (Ron) Urbansky of Pittsburgh, PA, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his siblings Dolores (Bob) McKelvey, Lee Roy (Carol) Neyman, Clarissa (Skip) Ord, and Robert Neyman.
Ray's final resting place will be in the Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery in Downingtown, PA. Friends and family are invited to gather for a memorial visitation on January 19, 2025, from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 pm in the funeral home's chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hopewell UMC, 852 Hopewell Rd, Downingtown, PA 19335.
Ray Neyman's life was a testament to kindness, faith, and love for others. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
