Rachel Margaret Houston
Age 32, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Templeton, passed from this world into the loving arms of her Savior after a six year battle with mental illness. She was born April 27, 1983. She is survived by her loving parents, Laurence and Sandra Houston; her grandmother, Mary Roellinger; and seven siblings, Grace (Bill) Barkovic, Faith (Dan) Dunmire, Isaac Houston, Hope (Joe) Mascio, Justice Houston, Courage Houston and Loyal Houston. She attended H2O Church in Oakland. She was a graduate of Pensacola Christian College, where she majored in English and journalism. She worked as a legislative assistant for Congressman Scott Garrett in Washington, D.C., and was actively involved in politics. She enjoyed strategy games, piano, harp, cello, classical music, cooking, reading, hiking and spending time with her boyfriend, Mark Barrett. She had many happy memories of various foreign mission trips, church functions, 4H, AWANA and diving and gymnastics at the YMCA. Rachel was a loving daughter, caring sister, affectionate aunt of Lana, Conlan, Selah and Malachi, and compassionate friend who will be greatly missed.
Viewing will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pleasant Hills, and the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2016, from Harvest Community Church, Kittanning.
