Paul M. Shatting, 91, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on April 15. He was born in Elizabeth, PA on July 17, 1924 to Edward and Isabel (McLay) Shatting.
Beloved husband of 62 years to Janet (Dowler) Shatting. Father of Cindy (Rich) Virgin and Cheryl (Craig) Carlson. Grandfather of Matt (Jamie) Virgin, Dan (Lauren) Virgin, Zach Virgin and the late Mike Virgin, Jason (Kailey) Carlson, Jessica Carlson and Jake Carlson. Great grandfather of Olivia, Mason and Eva Virgin. Preceded in death by his brothers Jim and Bill Shatting and his sister, Estelle Duff. Favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Paul was a WWII Medic in the 36th Texas Infantry, and a Purple Heart recipient after being wounded in the Italian African Theatre. After the war, Paul began a 44 year career at US Steel. He was a long time member of the Pleasant Hills Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon and Elder.
He was a 60 year member of the Stephen Bayard Masonic Lodge #526 and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite 33rd degree mason, and a long time member of the American Legion Post 712.
He was also a long time member and former Board secretary of the Charleroi Mountain Club, where he enjoyed many weekends with family and friends. The times Paul treasured most were the frequent family dinners and the competitive card games that followed.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 17, from 2-4 & 6-9 at JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, 15236. A Blessing Service will be held in the Chapel at the funeral home on Monday, April 18th, at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pleasant Hills Presbyterian Church, 199 Old Clairton Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236 or Shriners Hospital for Children, P.0 Box 1510 Ranson, WV 25438-4510
