Norma Jean Vredenburgh's Obituary
Norma passed peacefully into eternity with God at the home of her daughter and son-in-law. Norma was the daughter of Arthur Fred Reichert and Estella Reichert nee. Arras. Norma was preceded in death by her brother Herschel Reichert and by her husband, Walter A. Vredenburgh. She is survived by her children and grand children: Carol Alden (Vredenburgh), (Stephen), and Carol's daughter Emma Piontek, Susan Maxwell (Vredenburgh), (Robert), and David Vredenburgh, (Dianna nee. Moore) and their children Eva, Maxwell and Henry.
Norma was a graduate of Washington University where she and Walter met in German Club in 1950 and married in 1952. Together they enjoyed classical music, gardening and a three month honeymoon in Europe after Walter's graduation and before settling down in St. Louis.
Norma and Walter moved from St. Louis to Pittsburgh in 1964 and were members of the Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church. She was active in the Pleasant Hills Garden Club and Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church. She loved to garden, make crafts, cook and she arranged flowers for the Alter Guild at church. After Walter passed in 1988, Norma served on the Jefferson Hospital Community Committee. She helped to create a quilt that hangs in the hospital today. She also baked pies for the community soup kitchen on the north side at the Calvary United Methodist Church to honor Walter's participation with the church's pipe organ restoration committee. Norma enjoyed traveling to visit her grandchildren, crocheting, playing bridge and babysitting children for neighbors. She will be missed very much by her family and friends and remembered for her smiles, encouragement, forgiving nature, easy going positive spirit and strong work ethic.
