Norma Lee Corbin's Obituary
Norma Corbin was born at home on December 28, 1932 in Clairton, PA, to Howard and Ruth Cooper (maiden name Lee). Her mother died when she was only 8 months old and her father, Howard, remarried when Norma was 4, to Olive Patterson. Olive quickly became “Mom” to Norma. Howard and Olive raised Norma, an only child, on Peters Creek in Clairton, PA. As Norma grew up, she learned to play the piano and clarinet. She had a pet raccoon called “Coonie”, a dog called “Puppy” and a cat she named “Kitty.” Norma was very creative in naming her pets!
She graduated from Clairton high school in 1950, then attended Penn State, majoring in Education. She was an elementary teacher and librarian for 34 years. At Penn State she was introduced to a Christian on-campus ministry called Intervarsity Fellowship. It was through this ministry that she ultimately accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord, and also met her future husband, David Corbin. In the summer after their senior year Norma and David married. They had two children, Mark and Debbie. Norma was a dedicated mother. She poured her life into her two children, sharing her love for Jesus Christ with them and taking them to church during their growing-up years.
Mark and Debbie are now married; Mark to Cynthia (38 years) and Debbie to Brian Naylor (35 years). Norma’s six grandchildren range in age from 46 to 29. They are Bill (Karen), Dan (Meghan), Jesse, John (Elena), Matthew and Maria. Her great grandchildren are Mason, Skylar, Noah and Gabriella. Norma was involved in all of their lives providing love and support in more ways than can be counted, and each of them brought her great joy.
Her favorite scripture was 2 Timothy 1:12 (b) – “Nevertheless, I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.” Norma wanted more than anything for the people she knew to also know Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.
The South Hills Assembly of God was her church family since 1984. She taught Sunday School and volunteered for MOPS and other ministries. Pastor Owen, Pastor Stepp, Pastor Rick, and Pastor Pete are some of the pastors she appreciated through the years. Many people reached out and loved Norma from that congregation, and she was thankful for all of them. Her neighbors in Clairton were also very kind, supportive and loving to Norma through the years.
The family gratefully acknowledges the care teams at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in West Mifflin, the Hillman Cancer Center in Shadyside and the 6th floor west of Shadyside Hospital, who all provided grace, love and tremendous care to Norma. Dr. James Rossetti, her doctor for the last 18-20 years has been an amazing doctor and friend, who God used to treat Norma with excellence and loved her well.
Norma’s family thanks God for the great blessing He has bestowed on them through her life. Because of God’s amazing grace and her prayers some are able to say today they now belong to the Lord Jesus Christ, and they are thankful for her prayers and love through the years. Her life was a life lived well for the glory of God.
