Nancy J. McKown's Obituary
Nancy J. McKown, passed away on March 23, 2025, at the age of 87 following a short illness. Born on September 1, 1937, in Overbrook, Pennsylvania, Nancy was a devoted mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, who brought joy and creativity to the lives of all who knew her.
Nancy's professional journey spanned many years, during which she thrived as a secretary in the advertising industry. In her leisure time, Nancy found joy in creativity and technology. She had a passion for making personalized greeting cards on the computer, ensuring that everyone she loved received a special, heartfelt message. Her innovative spirit extended beyond cards; she was also an extraordinarily creative baker, crafting extravagant cakes that delighted family and friends long before the trend gained popularity on television.
A lover of games, Nancy enjoyed playing video games whether it was with her family in arcades or later in life on her iPad. Her nurturing nature and quick wit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Nancy is survived by her loving daughter, Michele (David) Novak; her cherished grandchildren, Jennifer (Rich) Tayag and Melissa (Phil) Hoffheimer; and her adoring great-grandchildren, Rosalind, Thayer, Ari, and Meredith; as well as her nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Melvin R. "Mike" McKown; her parents; and her sister, Margie (Jack) Flanigan.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, April 12th from 12- 2 P.M. at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.
A Blessing service will be held immediately following visitation at 2 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of choice in Nancy's memory, ensuring that her legacy of creativity and love continues to inspire others.
