Michael James Tighe's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael James Tighe, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, who left us on May 21, 2025, at the age of 35. Michael was born on June 23, 1989, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and was a lifelong resident of Jefferson Hills.
Michael graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 2007, where he excelled academically. He earned an associate's degree in computer drafting from P.T.I. and dedicated ten years of his life to his role as a computer draftsman at Elliot. His passion for technology and design was evident in his hard work.
A spirit of adventure defined Michael's life. He cherished riding dirt bikes and, later, quads, embracing excitement and freedom despite the challenges he faced. Not one to be limited by circumstance, Michael creatively converted his wheelchair to be compatible with riding a go-kart and embraced the use of electric scooters to continue his adventures. His zest for life was not only inspiring but infectious.
Michael's loyal companion, Buster, was a constant source of joy in his life. Their walks, often accompanied by friends Chris and Puckey, were filled with laughter, even leading to moments where Buster would need a lift home. Michael cherished these bonds, always finding happiness in shared experiences.
Described by his family as a fighter and a hero to many, Michael was a magnificent person all around. He was particularly close to his mother, Sandy, their relationship being that of two peas in a pod. As an uncle, he was an unwavering source of encouragement for his nephew, Ryan, always engaging in activities that filled Ryan's world with joy and wonder.
Michael's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his parents, James "Jim" and Sandy Tighe; sister, Kelly (Rob) Lips; brother, Sean Tighe; his nephew, Ryan, whom he adored; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and too many friends to count.
Funeral services will be held in celebration of Michael's incredible life on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. Friends and family are invited to gather to honor his memory and share stories from 2:00 -7:00 pm. A prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, 4401 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15224.
As we remember Michael, let us celebrate a life that exemplified courage, adventure, and love. His legacy will inspire us all to face life's challenges with the same tenacity he embodied every day.
