Michael Mark Simon's Obituary
Michael M. Simon, a cherished family man, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2023, at the age of 74. Born on July 26, 1949, in New York, NY, he was the beloved son of the late Emanuel and Ethel Simon. Michael's life was a testament to his love for history, his intellectual curiosity, and the deep bonds he forged with his family and friends.
Michael's passion for history was evident to all who knew him. A true Civil War buff, he could often be found engrossed in books about the era or visiting historical sites. His love for the New York Times crossword puzzles was matched only by his love for reading, a pastime he cherished throughout his life. Michael's knowledge and wit made him a captivating storyteller and a joy to be around.
He is survived by his loving children, Christopher Simon, Alexandra (Damian) Goralski and Victoria Simon, who will miss him dearly. Michael's memory will also be treasured by his sister, Letty Simon, and his sister-in-law, Lisa (Vincent) Castaldo. His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren, Lucas, Jacob, Samuel, and Caleb, who brought immense joy and pride to his life.
As well as his parents, Michael was predeceased by his spouse of 43 years, Laura Simon, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and companionship. Both native New Yorker’s, they created a life together in Pittsburgh, where they raised their family and were devoted grandparents.
A man of great intellect and even greater heart, Michael's absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a pillar of strength and wisdom in his family, and his stories and teachings will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.

Friends are welcome to join the family for visitation on Friday, December 29 from 12 pm - 2 pm at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, 15236. A funeral service will immediately follow visitation at 2 pm in the funeral home's chapel.
