Merl E. Steimer's Obituary
Merl E. Steimer, age 67, of West Mifflin, died unexpectedly of natural causes at his home. The son of the late Glenn E. and Reath C. Steimer, he was preceded in death by his brother Thomas P. Steimer and is survived by his siblings Reath (Steimer) Risaliti; Glenn (Michele) Steimer; Lee (Charlotte) Steimer; Neil (Moreth) Steimer; Lise (Steimer)and Richard Conte; and Susan (Steimer) and Robert Barbee; Sister-in-law Colleen Steimer; as well as several aunts and uncles, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Merl was multi-talented, with degrees in mathematics, computer science and civil engineering. Having earned his Professional Engineer certification, Merl worked with various engineering and construction firms, primarily in bridge design, and authored several articles for engineering publications. He was quite proud to have begun his construction career as a journeyman ironworker and was a lifetime member of Local No. 3 of the Ironworkers Union. He was meticulous in most things he set out to do, such as building museum-quality wooden ship models with authentic knots and rigging.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 30, from 2 to 8 pm, at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home on 301 Curry Hollow Road 15236, with a memorial service at 10 am on Wednesday, January 31, at Jefferson Memorial.
