Mary Ann Scott's Obituary
Mary Ann Scott, 85, was born on May 15, 1937, to the late Wanda Spreha and the late Wilbert Scott and passed away Monday, November 14, 2022, at St. Clair Hospital after a brief illness.
Mary Ann graduated from the Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing and also held a Bachelor of Science degree in
Nursing from Pennsylvania State University. She was a pioneer in intensive care nursing and head nurse of the first ICU at Presnyterian University Hospital (now UPMC-Presbyterian Hospital). She was a legend in the history and development of modern Emergency Medical Services, serving in many leadership roles, including Director of Tri Community South EMS. She was a founding member of the Pittsburgh/Allegheny County Critical Incident Stress Management Team, a volunteer group of trained professionals who provide peer support to firefighters, police, EMS workers, industrial staff and hospital staff to help them process their personal stress reactions after exposure to traumatic incidents. She was also a past president and active member of the Bethel Park Rotary Club.
Mary Ann loved her dogs, the Steelers, sporty cars (especially her Ford Mustang convertible), Hawaii, Frank Sinatra, Hallmark Christmas movies, good food and a good time with her friends and family. She is survived by her brother, Denis Conway (Dina) and sister, Linda Miller (Larry); three beloved nephews and a niece, Patrick Conway (Christine), Alex Conway, Joshua Miller (Nitzan) and Marissa Miller; and three beloved great nephews and a great niece, Sean Conway, Owen Conway, Daniel Miller, and Emily Miller. She is also survived by her much-loved dog and companion, Tessie. Burial will be private with a memorial service at a later date.
