Mary Helen Hollerich Massimino's Obituary
Age 95, of South Park, died May 16, 2021. Born October 14, 1925, Mary was the daughter of Frank and Anna Bella Hollerich. Mary graduated from Snowden High School in 1944, and married Joseph Massimino on July 12, 1952. She was the mother of six, who were made to appreciate not having to walk 5 miles to school in the snow. A part-time mother to most of the kids in the neighborhood, Mary always made room in her small home for whoever showed up. She later played a huge loving role in the lives of her grandchildren. She was the nucleus of the family and her home was a safe harbor to all, including several family members she cared for at the end of their lives. She will be greatly missed and impossible to replace. Mary was an active member of the South Park Historical Society and the South Park Golden Agers, a local poll worker and a volunteer at St. Joan of Arc fish fries. She loved watching the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates, and any sporting event that involved her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph P. Massimino, her sister, Margaret Hess, her brothers Frank, Henry, Joseph and Michael Hollerich, and her beloved granddaughter, Danielle Walker. She is survived by her dear brother, Albert Hollerich, her children Joseph Massimino (Maria Goldberg), Samuel Massimino (Michele Baierbach), Mary Ann (Ron) Hiserodt, Donna Massimino (Martin Walker), Daniel (Kim) Massimino and Sandra (Dennis) Beaulieu. She leaves behind grandchildren Clifford (Alexis), Maura, Tony (Caila), Collin (Vivian), Lire (Andrew), Jewel (Brian), Martin (Steph), Dennis, Jr. (Heather), Molly (Nick), Daniel, Kasson, Sammy, Annabella and Maria and 9 great-grandchildren. Also step-grandchildren Lisa (Woody), Matt (Kristen) and Jennifer (Nick), 11 step-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary's family is forever grateful to all of her caregivers and would like to especially thank Janet, Kathi and Heather, who provided professional, compassionate caregiving services for Mom during her most difficult time and who were incredibly kind, patient and caring. Visitation will be held Thursday, 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. Funeral service will begin at 10 am Friday. If you would like to honor Mary with a donation, please make it to the charity of your choice. Condolences may be given at www.jeffersonmemorial.biz.
