Mary "Ruth" Haid's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary "Ruth" Haid, age 97 on June 3, 2025.
Ruth (as she was better known) married her spouse Joseph Haid on 6/26/1947 in a newsworthy triple wedding with Joseph's siblings. Later, she was a devoted mother to her six children while also running a ceramics shop where she sold, taught and created beautiful works of art with clay.
Ruth was known to many for her creative and generous spirit. She was a very familiar face at St. Anne's parish where she was involved in everything from singing in the choir at mass to annual events such as the Fish Fry and Carnival. She took her love of serving others outside of church as well. She and Joseph would work as a team to deliver meals on wheels to those in need, and she worked on the election board.
Eager to learn new things, Ruth was a self-taught organist and even passed this knowledge on to her grandchildren. She even successfully learned how to navigate Facebook in her nineties! During the pandemic she used this skill to keep in touch with her family. While she never really posted, she was always there to read and hit the like button.
Ruth was a loving mother to, Mary Alice Carpenter (Larry), Jo Ann Jacobs (the late Roger) Michael Haid (Germaine), Patricia Schirra (Glenn) and Joseph Haid; a devoted grandmother to, Chad Carpenter(Maria), Clint Carpenter, Kathryn Clifford (Eric), Donny Schneider II (Jillian), Roger Jacobs Jr., Shawn Jacobs (Amy), Danielle Price (David), Veronica Smerecky (Joseph), Andrew Haid (Kristen), Christine Davis (Dan), Glenn Schirra Jr, Ryan Haid, Luke Haid (Leah) and Cassidy Haid; and sister to Ronald Weiss (Pat) and sister in law to Dee Haid (the late Gilbert). She will also be remembered by numerous nieces and nephews, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents Eleanor and Conrad Weiss; children Ruth Ann Watt (James), grandchildren, Vaughn Jacobs and Nicholas Schirra and siblings Francis McCarthy (Rita), Eileen Rudat (Bob).
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on June 6, 2025 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Rd. Pittsburgh PA 15236.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on June 7 at 9:30am at St. Anne Church, 400 Hoodridge Dr, Pittsburgh, PA 15234 (Saint Paul of the Cross Parish.)
