Mary Joann Dowling's Obituary
Mary Joann Dowling, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2024, at the age of 86.
Born on August 9, 1937, in West Newton, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of George and Awyn Marsh. After earning her bachelor's degree, Mary channeled her passion for knowledge and community into a fulfilling career as a teacher. Her natural ability to inspire and engage with her students left a lasting impact on many lives. Later in life, Mary transitioned to a role in the accounting department at JC Penney, where she continued to demonstrate her meticulousness and commitment to excellence.
Mary's heart was always with her family, who will remember her as a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her son, Brian (Takako) Dowling; and daughters, Melissa (Mark) Lebeda, and Rebecca Dowling. Mary's legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Ryan and Miranda Lebeda, and Mari, Ken, and Kai Dowling, who will carry forward her spirit of kindness and generosity.
Mary is predeceased by her beloved husband, Warren J. Dowling, and her parents.
Mary and Warren shared a passion for the outdoors, and together they were avid bicyclists, and members of the Gulf Shores: Folks on Spokes. Their shared adventures on two wheels brought them closer, not only to each other but also to the community of fellow enthusiasts they met along the way.
Mary's love for nature extended beyond cycling. She was an enthusiastic kayaker, relishing the tranquility and beauty of the waterways. Her flower garden was a testament to her patience and care, a vibrant display of colors and life that brought joy to everyone who saw it.
