Martin Favero Costa's Obituary
Age 93 of South Park, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2018. Loving husband of 67 years to Aida Asquini; Father of Martin John (Linda) of South Park, Grandfather of Britton (Valerie) of Canonsburg and Kaitlyn of New York.
Marty is a highly decorated veteran of the Italian Campaign in WWII where he was wounded and captured twice by the Nazi's. He escaped and carried another solider to safety and was awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star of Valor. After the army Marty pursued his education at Penn State where he also played basketball and set the record for most points in a game. He married his college sweetheart Aida Asquini and settled in the South Hills of Pittsburgh where he enjoyed a successful career as an executive with U.S. Steel. He is featured in the book Homestead, about the mill.
Marty always put family first saying his happiest days was when his son Martin John was born. His next happiest day was the birth of his grandson, Britton, and then his granddaughter Kaitlyn. Marty loved to garden, snow ski, play poker with his friends, and enjoyed his dogs. Marty was always the life of the party, telling stories and laughing. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Marty's name to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago IL 60601, or to the Humane Animal Rescue, 1101 Western Ave, Pgh PA 15233.
Please join us to celebrate his life at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road Pgh, PA 15236. Visitation is Tuesday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. A Celebratory Service will be on Wednesday at 10 AM in the funeral home chapel.
