Marlene F. Freelander's Obituary
Marlene F. Freelander, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on October 9, 1942, in West Mifflin, PA, Marlene's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family and her natural ability to nurture those around her.
Marlene's early years were spent in the loving company of her parents, Elmer and Cecelia Hollis, both of whom preceded her in death. She grew up alongside her sisters, Marian Kramer and Shirley Kron, forming lifelong bonds and memories. Marlene's heart found its match in Wilbert Freelander, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter until his passing.
Her legacy is carried on by her devoted children, Mindy (Stephen) Nagy and David (Tanya) Freelander, and her adored grandchildren, Amanda Nagy, Dominic and Alexander Freelander. Each of them was touched by Marlene's warmth, wisdom, and the joy she took in her role as a mom and grandma.
Before starting her family, Marlene worked at Duquesne University, where she was known for her kindness and dedication. However, it was clear that Marlene was born to be a mom. She embraced this calling wholeheartedly, creating a home that was a haven of support and encouragement.
Marlene's interests reflected her caring and creative spirit. She had a gift for working with children, and her passion for reading and baking were sources of comfort and delight for her family and friends. Her homemade treats and the stories she shared will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
Marlene's life was a testament to the beauty of simple pleasures and the importance of family. Her gentle presence and the love she so freely gave will continue to inspire those who knew her.
