Marion E. Filip's Obituary
Marion Filip, 82, of West Mifflin, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late Don Filip, and survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Rick) Tracy; two step children, Debra (Mike) Borowski, Linda (Mike) Cryster; four grandchildren, Michelle, Don, Ian (Monica), Holly (Scott); and three great grand children, Aaron, Sophia and Addison.
Marion was born on April 22, 1941, in Homestead, PA. She was a daughter of the late Raymond and Helen (Ritchie) Hoover. She married Ray Columbus in 1962 and they had a daughter, Cheryl, in 1964. Marion was a dedicated and loving mother, and she took great pride in raising her daughter as a stay-at-home mom. Later when Marion and Ray divorced, Marion began a career with the American Thrift Center supporting the Paralyzed Veterans of America, where she managed donations, solicitations, and dispatch. She took great pride in offering management advice and quickly became a trusted colleague and friend of the owner and manager.
At the age of 67, she serendipitously reunited with an old friend and married what would be the love of her life, Don Filip. They had many great years together.
She lived through many challenging times during her life, but she endured each with perseverance and positivity. Her motto was that you could accomplish anything when you put your mind to it.
Marion was a friend to anyone and everyone and she had a kind and gentle soul. Though her immediate family was small, her extended family included her best friend, Kay Babbie, and what she would call her “adopted” family, the Rosols.
She loved to garden and was known for her large vegetable harvests and her beautiful flower rock garden. She loved watching birds and being outdoors.
Marion loved the National Aviary because of her daughter Cheryl and because she was married there. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be sent to National Aviary, 700 Arch Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
A celebration of life service will be held 12:00PM on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. Prior to the service, there will be a visitation from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM.
