Marilyn Elizabeth Walk's Obituary
We recently lost a most beautiful women. Marilyn Walk passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023, from complications of dementia. She was born on January 2, 1938 in Salem, Ohio, the daughter of Howard and Elizabeth Schaefer. She leaves behind her husband of 62 years Dr. William Walk, two sons Dr. Michael and Daniel, a sister Nancy Gayer, two grandchildren: Daniel and Morgan, a daughter-in-law Deanna and several nieces and nephews.
Marilyn graduated in 1961 with a RN degree from the Ohio State University. She was married in August of 1961. The next two years were spent as a surgical nurse in Louisiana where her husband was stationed in the Air Force. Upon returning to Pittsburgh she served as a surgical nurse at Columbia Hospital.
Until her illness she led a very fulfilling life. She was an active member of both Pleasant Hills Presbyterian Church and the Pleasant Hills Garden Club. She enjoyed bridge, tennis, and golf at the Edgewood Country Club. Taking after her father she could do almost anything she put her mind to such as wallpapering, painting, making draperies, slip covers, and installing tile floors.
She was best known for her sewing, quilting and appliqued work. Many of her dozens of beautiful table runners and appliqued sweatshirts are still in service.
The family would like to thank Vitas Hospice for their compassionate care. If desired memorials may be made to the Pleasant Hills Presbyterian Church, Vitas Health Care or a charity of your choice.
Family and friends will be received for visitation on Tuesday October 24th from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh. Burial will be held privately Wednesday morning. Afterwards all are invited for a memorial service at Pleasant Hills Presbyterian Church at 11:00 am.
