Marcia J. (Schuyler) Kline's Obituary
Kline
Marcia J.
Marcia J. Schuyler Kline, with her family at her bedside, passed away on September 24, after a valiant struggle with pancreatic cancer. Marcia was born on September 4, 1945 and married on June 21, 1969. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Merrill, son Michael, son Brian, daughter in law Suzie, and her first granddaughter Stella. Marcia was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Mildred Schuyler, her younger sister, Virginia (& Walt) Theile, her great-nephew, William, numerous aunts and an uncle, and her brother-in-law, Charles. Marcia is also survived by her brother, Thomas (& Frances) and their daughters, Jessica and Andrea, and by Virginia’s children, Kip Theile (& Catherine) and daughter Gretchen, and Heather (Theile) Cullin (& James) and sons Benjamin and Alex. Marcia also leaves behind her close cousin, Suzanne (& Jay) and their children and grandchildren, and her childhood best friends, Margie (& Mel) and Beverly. She is likewise survived by the Minnesota Kline clan including Merrill’s siblings, Arlene, Bob (& Rosie), Ron (& Joyce), Jack, Mary Lou (& John), Elaine, Albin, and Therese and all their children and grandchildren.
Marcia from childhood always wanted to be a nurse, especially a nurse of children. As a Presby grad, she worked at Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital and later part time as a school nurse in the North Allegheny, Hampton, and Fox Chapel school districts. She worked all the way up to age 71, and then took a break to start another job helping take care of her granddaughter in California.
Besides being a nurse, Marcia’s passion was for genealogy and for travel. She has written but never published over 800 pages on the Schuyler (Shuler) family tree. She intends to complete that task in the after-life. For anyone that has ideas on how to help her complete her dream of writing her book, talk to Merrill, Michael, or Brian. She spent several years in Spain and in Slovakia due to Merrill’s work with U.S.Steel. She sang in a Basque choir in Bilboa, Spain, and helped Merrill trace his family roots in Slovakia. Over the years, Marcia traveled the world with her family including trips to Alaska, Canada, Mexico, England, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Egypt, Australia and New Zealand. All of those trips were so wonderful thanks to Marcia’s amazing planning abilities.
Marcia also enjoyed her time with the U.S. Steel Ciloet group where she made many friends. She believed in civic duty so she was a judge-of-elections for over 20 plus years. She loved music; she sang with and encouraged her son’s musical development, helping teach them piano and guitar. Weather below 85° F demanded no less than 2 sweaters and long johns. She was smart, truthful, honest, kind, blunt and stubborn when she believed she was right. Her sons were her pride and joy - she would do anything to make them happy. That includes right up until the end when she would still roll her eyes and smile at her son’s jokes even while dealing with incredible pain. Her strong spirit will stay with us always.
A closed casket service will be held at the Jefferson Memorial Cemetery in Pleasant Hills, PA on Saturday, September 30, 2017. A memorial will be held a week later in Minnesota, and then another afterwards in California.
One last note, Marcia had a memory that was so amazing, the rest of the family relied on her all the time. If we forgot something, now we need your help to remember. Please keep thoughts of Marcia in your heart and don’t hesitate to contact Merrill, Michael, or Brian if you want to share any nice memories, pictures, or anything else to help us remember the truly wonderful wife, mother, and friend, Marcia Joanne Kline.
