Lois Ellen Sharps' Obituary
Lois Ellen (Chess) Sharps, age 97, passed away on January 27, 2025. She was born in Dry Ridge, Pa. on September 20, 1927, to the late Thomas Allen and Flossie Edith Chess. Lois graduated from Waynesburg College in 1949 where she also met her late husband, Conrad "Howard" Sharps. Lois was a teacher for 25 years in the Plum Borough School District before retiring. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Thomas A. Chess of Richhill Twp., Greene County, Pa.
She is lovingly remembered by her children Dorothy (Michael) Burns of Pittsburgh and Dr. Chester (Vicki) Sharps of Richmond Virginia; grandchildren Carrie Smith, Elizabeth Galvanek (James Dunn), Daniel (Cassie) Sharps, Joanna (Fletcher) Metz, Matthew (Amanda) Sharps, and Nelson (Isabella) Sharps, and 8 great-grandchildren; Elena, Cora, Jude, Mara, Tamsin, Alice, Lydia and Hudson. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as her sister-in-law, Sarah Chess.
Lois (Ellen to her family in Greene County) was an excellent teacher, a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a kind person whose warmth and positivity touched many lives. She and Howard were active and generous in the churches they belonged to over the years. They were snowbirds, as well as residents, in Florida for a number of years, traveled extensively, and spoiled their grandchildren as much as possible.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, January 31st from 6-8 PM and Saturday, February 1st from 10 am to 12:30 pm at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, 301 Curry Hollow Rd., Pleasant Hills, 15236.
A Funeral Ceremony will be held on Saturday, February 1st at 12:30 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel.
